EVO Visian ICL Intra-Ocular Lenses<\/h2>\n

The EVO Visian ICL manufactured by Staar Surgical, is a thin clear lens surgically implanted into the eye as a long-term solution for short-sightedness (myopia), long-sightedness (hyperopia) and astigmatism.<\/p>\n

The lens functions like a contact lens to change your focus but is placed inside the eye to be maintenance free. \u00a0They are made from a material that allows them to stay safely in the eye without reaction or you being able to feel any discomfort.<\/p>\n

Your natural lens is NOT removed, so you continue to have normal near focus for your age and if needed the Visian ICL lenses are removable or can be replaced with new lenses, although rarely required.<\/p>\n

This lens is primarily for younger patients (21-45) with very high refractive errors that are outside the range for LASIK or PRK, or for patients with inadequate corneal thickness or some other underlying condition that would make a laser procedure undesirable.\u00a0 For older patients where reading glasses are not desired a multifocal lens implant can be used as an alternative.<\/p>\n

The Visian ICL procedure is a permanent one \u2013 or until you decide that you may want to remove it. The ICL has the advantage of being reversible.<\/p>\n

The ICL is specifically manufactured to correct your prescription and its strength is determined after a thorough series of measurements at our clinic. \u00a0There needs to be adequate room within the eye, the anterior chamber depth measurement, allowing space to permit implantation of these lenses, which is determined at the time of the consultation.<\/p>\n

Implanting the lens is a relatively simple outpatient procedure but can be performed either awake or under general anaesthetic for those who prefer this.<\/p>\n

This procedure can also be used to treat myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism, and for some people other surgical procedures may be combined with phakic lens implantation to solve astigmatic focusing problems.<\/p>\n
